The Dockside Restaurant in the Granville Island Hotel is really convenient if you are going to see a play at Performance Works, about 1 minute walk from the hotel entrance. We were going to see Influence, a new play by BC writer, Janet Munsil, that was opening at Performance Works, so dinner at Dockside was an excellent choice. Whenever I have been there before it has been quite busy so I made a reservation for 6 pm. We were shown to a window table with a beautiful view across False Creek. Vancouver is such a spectacular city.
I decided to try the special entree of duck breast with scallion reduction, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Delicious.
My friend decided on lobster ravioli. He raved about the flavour but could not decide what gave it that special taste. I suspect it was the tarragon in the parmesan and lemon cream sauce.
Since we had both resisted having appetizers, when he proposed to order the three kinds of sorbet , summer strawberry, lychee and fresh mango, I decided I also could justify dessert. I suspect that the calorie content of the sorbet was nowhere near that of the utterly decadent, fantastic caramel pecan cheesecake with pecan crust and chocolate ganache. Anyway I had the cheesecake and it was every bit as tasty as I sounds. And I don't even have a sweet tooth! I thought it was so delicious that I decided to feature it as the picture at the top of this review.
The service was pleasant and efficient, the view exceptional and the food great. And best of all, we could really linger over our meal and take a slow stressless walk across to the theatre.
